{"id":3997,"date":"2018-08-03T18:01:59","date_gmt":"2018-08-03T18:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/?p=3997"},"modified":"2020-02-15T14:43:06","modified_gmt":"2020-02-15T14:43:06","slug":"theme-installation-magazine-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/makenzie\/getting-started-makenzie\/theme-installation-magazine-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Theme Installation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"upload-the-theme\">Upload the Theme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"using-ftp\">Using FTP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To add a new theme to your WordPress installation you must follow these basic steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><a href=\"https:\/\/wplook.com\/my-account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download the theme archive<\/a>&nbsp;and extract the files it contains.<\/li><li>Use a FTP client (we recommend&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/filezilla-project.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FileZilla<\/a>) to access your host web server and upload the extracted folder, named <em>makenzie-wpl<\/em>, to the <code>wp-content\/themes\/<\/code> directory.<\/li><li>Follow the below instructions to activate the theme.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"using-the-administration-panel\">Using the Administration Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><a href=\"https:\/\/wplook.com\/my-account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download the theme archive<\/a>&nbsp;and extract the files it contains.<\/li><li>Log into the WordPress Administration Panel.<\/li><li>Select the <strong>Appearance&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2192&nbsp;<strong>Themes<\/strong> from the main menu.<\/li><li>Click on&nbsp;<strong>Add New<\/strong> at the top of the page.<\/li><li>Click on&nbsp;<strong>Upload&nbsp;Theme<\/strong>&nbsp;at the top of the page.<\/li><li>Click <strong>Upload<\/strong>, select the theme archive you&#8217;ve downloaded in step 1, named <em>makenzie<\/em><em>-wpl.zip<\/em>&nbsp;and click&nbsp;<strong>Install Now<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Follow the below instructions to activate the theme.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"activate-the-theme\">Activate the Theme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Log into the WordPress Administration Panel<strong>.<\/strong>\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-large wp-image-30\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"wp-admin\" class=\"wp-image-30\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/wplook.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/login-900x599.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>yourdomain.com\/wp-admin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\"><li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Appearance\u00a0<\/strong>\u2192\u00a0<strong>Themes<\/strong>\u00a0from the main menu.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\"><li>Hover over <strong>Makenzie\u00a0WPL<\/strong> and click on\u00a0<strong>Activate<\/strong> to enable the theme.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"update-the-theme\">Update the theme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Make a Backup.<\/li><li>Log into the WordPress Administration Panel.<\/li><li>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Appearance&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2192&nbsp;<strong>Themes<\/strong>&nbsp;from the main menu.<\/li><li>Activate another theme, like the WordPress&#8217; default, Twenty Sixteen.<\/li><li>Delete the theme (Makenzie WPL).<\/li><li>Upload the <em>makenzie<\/em><em>-wpl.zip<\/em> file as described above.<\/li><li>Activate the&nbsp;theme you used before the update<strong>.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-vivid-cyan-blue-background-color\">If you are also using the Makenzie Child Theme, never update or delete it, and update the parent theme, Makenzie WPL instead. Updating the child theme\u00a0will cause you to lose custom modifications to your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"troubleshooting\">Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"missing-stylesheet\">Missing Stylesheet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a \u201cStylesheet is missing\u201d error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This error message does not mean that the theme is not working, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have uploaded the theme through the WordPress Administration Panel, try deleting the theme from your site and uploading the <em>makenzie<\/em><em>-wpl.zip<\/em> file again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you uploaded the theme using FTP, navigate to the theme directory (<code>wp-content\/themes\/<em>makenzie<\/em>-wpl\/<\/code>) and try uploading the&nbsp;<em>style.css<\/em> file again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upload the Theme Using FTP To add a new theme to your WordPress installation you must follow these basic steps: Download the theme archive&nbsp;and extract the files it contains.
